We are all deeply sensuous beings, yet many of us lose the ability to truly feel. I didn’t realize how disconnected I had becomeβ€”until I started to notice what I was missing. Luontopolku, the Life Reconnection Signature Program at The Journey Studio invites to you come back to your sensesβ€”literally.

This is a deeply personal process. Each journey is unique, shaped by where you're starting from and where life is calling you next.

Some of us are drawn to the wind on our skin, the sound of waves, the feel of smooth stones. Since childhood, I’ve wandered Finnish forests, following trails, collecting natural treasures, and swimming in icy lakes for the sheer thrill of sensation. At my lakeside villa in Finland, I cherish walking the path to the shoreβ€”feeling its quiet, transportive power.

During the decade I lived in Bangladesh, I loved the local saying: β€œGo eat wind.” And I didβ€”climbing rooftops just to feel a breeze when I couldn’t reach the forest or seashore.

My first novel, All That Is Yours, ends with a decisive moment by a melting candleβ€”a symbol of how fire stirs something deep in us. There’s a reason we’re drawn to sunsets, forest silence, and dancing flames. These are ancient callsβ€”sensory cues we’ve simply forgotten how to hear.

Luontopolku means Nature Trail in Finnish. In the Back to Your Senses – Life Reconnection Program, it becomes a moving, grounded journey guiding us back to ourselvesβ€”to where we truly belong.

It doesn’t have to be in Finland. The nature trail, our trail, is already thereβ€”waiting for us wherever we are.

Reconnection Begins with Awareness

Your first task in this program is simple: start listening to your senses.

Some elements will feel familiar, others distant or dormant. That’s okay. Through grounding rituals, nature immersion, and daily reflection, we begin to remember what it’s like to feel fully alive.

Each journeyβ€”whether it's a retreat, 1:1 coaching, or a self-guided explorationβ€”is intentional. You may feel drawn to earth for grounding, water for emotional clarity, or air for spaciousness. The goal isn't β€œbalance”—it's wholeness.

And when your senses come back online, your intuitionβ€”your sixth senseβ€”returns too.

Once we start to listen, we begin journeying back to hearing ourselves and taking next steps in the direction calling us. To truly integrate what we notice, it helps to begin journalingβ€”even just a few words, images, or sketches. The longer we give ourselves time to walk, pause, and reflect, the more clearly we begin to hear. Our sensory cues become more precise, guiding us in our relationships, decisions, and sense of place.

Over time, your journal becomes a mirrorβ€”offering perspective, clarity, and signs of where you're heading. It's not just about writingβ€”it's about listening more deeply, to the body and the world around you.

Even a short nature trail or moment of stillness can open the door. But as awareness deepens, you may feel called to longer hikes, solo retreats, or multi-day getawaysβ€”opportunities to slow down, listen fully, and reconnect with your truth.

Earth – Grounding & Stability

Touch, body awareness

We all need touch. As children, we collected rocks, walked barefoot, followed nature trails and touched everything. When life gets overwhelming, returning to the earth brings us back into the body.

Practices: barefoot walking, following a nature trail, hiking, sitting on rocks, stone stacking
Use when: feeling anxious, unsteady, disconnected
Invites: anchoring, stillness, safety

Try this:
Walk barefoot for five minutes. Follow a nature trail to a forest or valley. Stack stones and set an intention.
Go hiking. Touch the ground, feel the plants, pick a pinecomb. Make a note: what did nature tell you? Where was the trail leading you to?

Water – Flow & Emotion

Touch, hearing

Water holds memory. We sleep to its sound. We surrender in its embrace.

Practices: wild swimming, saunas, shoreline walks
Use when: feeling blocked, dry, restless
Invites: surrender, softness, emotional release

Try this:
Stand in water and close your eyes. What’s moving within?
Spend time by a lake or the sea. Lie on a pier or float in a boat.
Visit a lakeside saunaβ€”dip in, breathe, return. What did you feel in the warmth and the cold? Write it down.

Fire – Energy & Transformation

Sight, warmth

We gather around fire to share stories, cook, and transform. It reminds us what to burnβ€”and what to light up. Across cultures, from Fallas in Spain to Midsummer bonfires in Finland, fire symbolizes letting go and starting anew.

Practices: candle gazing, fire rituals, wood sauna
Use when: feeling stuck or depleted
Invites: courage, clarity, inner ignition

Try this:
Watch a flame. Attend a bonfire. Write what you'd like to release or begin.
Feed a fireβ€”feel its warmth. What part of you is ready to ignite?

Air – Breath & Clarity

Smell, hearing, breath

Air clears and cleanses. It stirs the body and quiets the mind. Our breath tells us everything.

Practices: deep breathing, facing the wind, silent walks
Use when: feeling overstimulated, mentally foggy
Invites: mental space, peace, freedom

Try this:
Face the wind. Let it pass through you.
Take a walk in weather you’d usually avoidβ€”what emotions arise?
At bedtime, breathe with awareness. Let thoughts drift in and out. What stays?

Space (Aether) – Intuition & Presence

Stillness, sixth sense

This is the element of inner knowing. It lives in silenceβ€”the pause between actions, the breath between thoughts.

Practices: stargazing, silent sitting, mindful presence
Use when: feeling scattered, lost, or detached from self
Invites: soul connection, deeper self-trust

Try this:
Find a place that calls to you. Sit for five minutes. No input. Just be.
